Schedule and Basic Information
“When is the destination training?”
Thai for the Table Supine & Thai for the Table Prone and Side Lying massage training in Costa Rica will be held from May 28 through June 4, 2016. You can register now for this class!
“Where does the training take place?”
Our training and accommodations are at the famous Pura Vida Retreat and Spa in Costa Rica. You can check out their website at PuraVidaSpa.com.
“What times are the training sessions? When will I have free time?”
Our teaching hours are from 9am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm. On the last class day, our class is from 9am to 1pm. There is a leisurely 2 hour lunch each day, and there is typically a free day, where you can travel around the area or head to the beach.
Your tuition includes accommodations, 30 CEs, and three meals each day.
“How do I register?”

“How soon should I register?”
To guarantee a seat in the course, you should sign up as soon as possible—registrations are limited and accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Payment is required to secure your registration (see more in the “Payment” section below).
There are two payment options available for the Costa Rica destination training. Please note: if you wish to receive early bird pricing, you must make payment in full prior to the early bird cutoff date.
Option #1: Full Payment: Make full payment at your time of registration. This guarantees your spot in the course, and you’ll be ready to plan your trip!
Option #2: As an alternative, you can make a $500 non-refundable deposit to reserve your seat, and payment in full 60 days prior to the course.
“What forms of payment do you accept?”
All payments must be in the form of US funds. We accept all credit cards and PayPal.
“Is there a written test during or upon completion of the training?”
No test is given during or after the training.
“Do I receive CE hours for this training?”
The destination training in Costa Rica is approved for 30 CE hours by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), the State of Florida Board of Massage Therapy, and most other state certifying agencies.
“Can I apply some of the CE hours from this seminar to my next renewal period?”
The NCBTMB permits you to carry up to 12 CE hours over to the next renewal period, however, the State of Florida Board of Massage Therapy does not allow this option.
“What meals are included in my tuition?”
Your tuition includes three meals each day.
“What type of accommodations are included in my tuition?”
Pura Vida Retreat and Spa is located in Alajuela, Costa Rica, a 20 minute drive from the San Jose Airport.
“Which airport should I fly into?”
There are 2 airports in Costa Rica–Liberia And San Jose. The airport you choose is dependent upon the location of the workshop itself. The May 2016 training session is near San Jose, so please fly into the San Jose International Airport.
“What type of clothing should I bring?”
T-shirts and shorts are a good option for the warm days. You’ll want to have a sweater or sweatshirt on hand for any cool evenings, a hat, a bathing suit, and rainwear—a poncho is best. A couple of casual dress outfits are a good idea if you’d like to go “out on the town.”
“What kinds of shoes do you recommend I bring?”
Walking or hiking boots, sneakers, and sandals with straps. For other water activities, you need shorts and waterproof sandals, or shoes that you do not mind getting wet that won’t come off in the water.
“What else do I need to bring with me?”
Useful items include a flashlight, an alarm clock, sunscreen, a beach towel, a backpack, insect repellent, an umbrella, and toiletries. Please also bring one set of massage linens.
“What shouldn’t I bring?”
Massage tables will be provided! Do not bring your own table.
“Do I need a Passport?”
Yes, U.S. law now requires a passport. Please note that Costa Rican law requires your passport be valid for at least 90 days after the date you enter the country. This means that if your passport will expire within the next 90 days, you must renew it before your trip. Check with your airline or travel agent for more information. You are required to carry your passport with you at all times. If you are stopped by officials, a photocopy with your photo, passport number, and entry stamp will usually suffice, and is recommended.
“Do I need shots before my trip?”
No shots or vaccinations are needed for visits to Costa Rica.
“How much is the Airport Departure Tax?”
When departing Costa Rica, you will need to pay $26 non-residency departure tax at the airport. Cash, Visa, or MasterCard is accepted.
“What is the exchange rate?”
You can find the most up to date currency exchange rates at XE.com. The currency in Costa Rica is called the Colon.
“Do I need trip insurance?”
We highly recommend that you purchase insurance for your trip.

“Is the water in Costa Rica safe to drink?”
Yes, water quality standards in Costa Rica are generally quite high and visitors normally do not have any problems.

“Is Wi-Fi available?”
Free Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant and guest lounge. We also have computers with free high-speed internet available in our guest lounge free of charge.
“Can I use my laptop?”
Yes! Free Wi-Fi is available in our guest lounge, pool area and restaurant.
“Can I use my cell phone?”
Most cell phones work, however, you will need to contact your provider for assistance. We also offer a phone for guest use in our guest lounge for $5 per 15 minutes.
“What is the temperature?”
Located at almost 5,000 feet above sea-level, year-round temperatures at Pura Vida range from 70 to 80 degrees during the day with mild nights in the high 50s to low 60s. May through November is the Green Season in Costa Rica.
The sun rises here all year round 5:30 am and by 6:00 am everyone is usually naturally awake and alert. Sunset is around 6:00 pm all year round.
